The presence of speech therapy in the clinical field is expanding. The most common vocal pathologies treated in hospitals, social-health centers, and other clinical facilities are those related to vocal cord paralysis, partial and total laryngectomies, and neurological dysphonia.
This monograph offers the possibility to refresh and supplement both the knowledge of these disorders, as well as the strategies and practices for their improvement.

Classes are taught in Catalan and Spanish.

Objective

  • Provide the participants with theoretical and practical resources to address speech therapy intervention for voice disorders in laryngeal cancer, vocal cord paralysis, and neurological dysphonia with quality and up-to-date information, from a holistic perspective of the pathology (multidisciplinary approach).

Specific objectives

  • Provide additional theoretical and practical knowledge to speech therapists who wish to specialize in the speech therapy treatment of voice disorders related to vocal cord paralysis, laryngectomies, and neurological dysphonia.
  • Provide tools for a correct exploration and assessment of defined vocal disorders
  • Relate the basic elements of vocal technique with the re-education techniques that are commonly used in the field of clinical pathology.

Intended participants

Holders of diplomas and graduates in Speech and Language Therapy; holders of diplomas, degree holders and graduates who have completed specialization courses in speech and language therapy; university graduates and doctors with an interest in voice disorders; singing coaches.
Training in relation to the voice is necessary participants are not graduates in speech and language therapy or medicine, or singing coaches.

Specific skills

  • Understand the classification and etiology of vocal cord paralysis, partial/total laryngectomy, and neurological dysphonia.
  • Expand rehabilitative knowledge focused on the specified disorders.
  • Understand how to adapt vocal therapy to the functional consequences of these pathologies.
  • Know how to manage speech therapy assessment and intervention, integrating theoretical and practical knowledge with a holistic and multidisciplinary approach.
  1. Description, classification, etiology, and treatment of neurological dysphonia.
  2. Laryngeal Cancer: description, etiology, and treatment.
  3. Speech therapy intervention in partial laryngeal neoplasms. Case studies
  4. Speech therapy rehabilitation for total laryngectomy patients with a voice prosthesis.
  5. Esophageal voice workshop.
  6. Laryngeal paralysis: description, etiology, and treatment
  7. Rehabilitation of unilateral laryngeal paralysis in abduction

  • To be eligible for the certificate of completion, attendance is mandatory for at least 80% of the course.
  • According to Order ENS / 248/2012 of August 20, this course is considered permanent training for non-university faculty.
