This course is a continuation of the Level 1 course in the first semester. It is aimed at long-term students, i.e., students who are studying a bachelor degree or master's degree at the School and who need to reach a level of understanding and expression of Catalan as soon as possible in order to be able to follow classes normally, interact with their classmates and live in Catalonia. The course is taught as a university extension course, lasting 30 hours.

Objectives

  • Introduce the Catalan language and culture to foreign students.
  • Facilitate the integration of foreign students into the university community.
  • ​Ensure that foreign students acquire a level of Catalan that will enable them to communicate and develop in Catalan society.

Methodology

A communicative approach will be followed based on real output (oral and written) produced in the context of the university and beyond. The methodology used will be dynamic and communicative and will encourage oral participation in class and the comprehensive improvement of the four language skills, expanding and consolidating grammatical knowledge and vocabulary at the same time.

Assessment

This course will be assessed based on:

  • Participation in class
  • ​Monitoring of the activities that will be carried out throughout the course
  • A final test exercise

  • Review of verb tenses studied in level one (present and past tense).
  • The future.
  • The imperative.
  • Introduction to the forms of the subjunctive.
  • Vocabulary and basic expressions used in everyday communication and related to studies (Speech and Language Therapy, Psychology, Education, SES, etc.).
  • Morphology and syntax (expansion and application of the content studied in level 1):
    • Nouns. Gender and number.
    • Articles. Determiners.
    • Adjectives.
    • Pronouns.
    • Verbs. Conjugation models. Regular forms. Main irregular verbs.
    • Prepositions and prepositional phrases.
    • Adverbs and adverbial phrases.
    • The conjunctions.
  • Spelling (expansion and application of the content studied in level 1):
    • The neutral vowel.
    • The O and the U.
    • The letters B and V.
    • The letters P/B, T/D, C/G at the end of a word.
    • The voiced and unvoiced S sound.
    • Spellings with X-IX, J-G, TX-IG.
    • Spellings with M-N and MPT-MPC.
    • Spellings with L·L, H, R-RR.
