Within the framework of the postgraduate course on speech therapy intervention in voice disorders, a specific training course has been developed on the application of manual therapies in voice treatments.

The training is designed to provide participants with a general framework for action and a range of specific resources for application to patients with vocal disorders.

Objective

  • Provide the participants with the theoretical and practical resources to address the speech therapy intervention for voice disorders with quality and up-to-date information, from a holistic perspective of the pathology (multidisciplinary approach).

Specific objectives

  • A thorough knowledge of anatomy and physiology

  • Have tools for a correct exploration and assessment of phonatory organs.

  • Introduction to the basic concepts of osteopathic manipulative therapy.

  • To acquire practice in palpation skills in order to perform a correct localization and assessment of anatomical structures.

  • Understand the functioning of the larynx integrated in the biomechanical mechanisms from the different functions in which it is involved: structural, postural, respiratory, masticatory/swallowing, articulatory and phonatory.

  • Be familiar with the manipulations necessary to restore the mobility of the systems and return to normal the possible dysfunctions associated with voice disorders.

Intended participants

  • Holders of diplomas and graduates in Speech and Language Therapy; holders of diplomas, degree holders and graduates who have completed specialization courses in speech and language therapy; university graduates and doctors with an interest in voice disorders.

Specific skills

  • Knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the vocal apparatus and the relationship with the whole body system

  • Basic knowledge about manual therapies adapted to vocal disorders

  • Know how to manage speech therapy assessment and intervention, integrating theoretical and practical knowledge with a holistic and multidisciplinary approach.

  1. Introduction and basic concepts.
  2. Eupneic and functions of the larynx.
  3. Palpation and manual therapy.
  4. Cervical spine, neck and shoulder girdle.
  5. Thoracic spine and respiration.
  6. Masticatory system, TMJ and tongue.
  7. Larynx and hyoid system.
  8. Overall biomechanical adjustments.
  9. Case studies.
