Samuel Aranda: 1st at 2016 Ortega y Gasset Prize of Photojournalism
The photojournalist Samuel Aranda, guest Professor at the Official Master in Advanced Journalism, received the 2016 Ortega y Gasset Prize 2016 of photography for the image «Arribant al paradís» published in the Diari ARA.
The jury of the prize, given by the newspaper El Pais, has highlighted «the strength and drama of an image depicting the drama of refugees attempting to cross the Mediterranean.»
This image, in black and white, shows a mother hugging her son at sea in Lesbos .
Aranda, who has contributed to many Spanish and Catalan newspapers, including EFE, El Periodico de Catalunya, El Pais and other international media such as AFP, received the World Press Photo in 2011 for a picture showing a mother consoling her son in Yemen.
