Opening of Blanquerna FCRI academic course for 2016-2017

The School’s dean, Dr. Josep Maria Carbonell, referred to a fragment from the Book of Ecclesiastes where it says that there’s a moment for everything: “And now, welcomed students, it’s time to learn.”

He highlighted the importance of the seminars -a mark of the School’s educative model-, where the students share the class with a small group of companions under the mentorship of a tutor, who will be their interlocutor throughout the course.

Carbonell encouraged the students to participate in the complementary activities the School offers and take advantage of the proximity and the cultural services of Raval: “This neighborhood is a sample of the globalized world. You must exploit the synergies”.

The Registrar of the School, Dr. Enric Xicoy, gave details of the academic aspects of each degree and the rules of the School. Meanwhile, Dr. Ignasi Boada reminded us that students starting university life today are incorporating themselves into a tradition that has its roots in XII century Europe: “Because of that, we call on you to rise to the level of academic excellence”.

The International Relations degree director, professor Onno Seroo, wished “a happy and lucky start” to the new students on a degree course consolidated, year by year, as a pioneer in Catalonia.

Professor Sandra Balsells underlined the value of the volunteering and cooperation programs, while Mosen Francesc Romeu invited the students to participate in the forthcoming meditation workshops, which are very useful -he said- during the exam period.

Finally, the School Students Council representative, Georgina Leger, gave the newcomers a golden tip: “I recommend you to get involved from the first minute. It’s a very satisfying experience”.
