The Blanquerna-URL FPCEE, Abacus and FECC sign a partnership agreement to train 200 teachers in Level B2 of Digital Competence

December 15, 2023

The Blanquerna URL - School of Psychology, Education Sciences and Sport - signs a partnership agreement with Abacus (HabilisCat) and the Christian School Foundation of Catalonia (FECC) to drive a ground-breaking digital competence training project for 200 teachers from all over Catalonia.

The project entitled "Goal: Earth, how to improve it from space" is devoted to training based on 3D printing and using educational robots. The initiative endeavours to train upwards of 200 teachers from 10 educational centres of the FECC in Catalonia in the digital framework. The purpose is to give digital tools to teachers to implement in classrooms and improve students' learning capacity.

The agreement was signed at Escola Verge de la Salut (Sant Feliu de Llobregat). The dean of the School, Dr. Jordi Riera; the CEO of Abacus, Oriol Soler; and the general secretary of the Christian School Foundation of Catalonia, Meritxell Ruiz, were entrusted with formalising the agreement between the three institutions.

The signing of this agreement reaffirms the Blanquerna FPCEE's commitment to education, teacher training and implementing technology in the classroom.

"This is a major opportunity on many levels: firstly, for faculty to obtain the CDD B2 level; secondly, to renew and update the material and technological resources in the classroom; and thirdly, to enjoy and experience a real STEM project at school, where technology is the vehicle for fostering many skills-based learning processes". -- Miquel Àngel Prats, full professor of educational technology at the Blanquerna-URL FPCEE and educational coordinator of the "Goal Earth" project.

It is a ground-breaking initiative that, through the epic story of the moon landing and the exploration of space, will enable teachers to bring technology into the classroom to improve learning [...] As always, the goal we pursue at Abacus is to give teachers tools to help them do their job as teachers even better and to be useful in the current educational challenges." -- Sílvia Brandi, head of Habilis, the educational platform of Abacus.

Furthermore, Eva Aguiló, Head of the Pedagogical Area of the FECC, highlights how this initiative is linked to implementing the strategic reflection in the pedagogical field undertaken in recent years by Christian schools, where it is deemed essential to create the foundations of a true digital culture in schools, which includes the responsible, ethical, critical, healthy and conscious use of technologies, personalisation of learning and fostering collaboration and innovation.

The project, which has already undergone a prior pilot phase in July with a course in the framework of the summer school, has received 500,000 euros in funding from the Ministry of Education as part of the support line for B2 digital training projects.
