To promote a responsible journalism in times of the Covid-19 pandemic
In the framework of the European project "Media Councils in the Digital Age", the research group Digilab wants to share the recommendations for journalists who are working on the coverage of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Both the Alliance of Independence Press Councils of Europe and the European Federation of Journalists have published press releases with recommendations in this regard.
Journalists must adequately protect themselves when covering the news, but they must also report responsibly, without falling into sensationalism, and giving voice to authorized sources. Likewise, all the media have a duty to combat the disinformation that spreads through the networks, whether in relation to unproven preventive measures, rumors or fake news.
In collaboration with UNESCO, the European press councils are asked to take initiatives to promote responsible, ethical journalism that respects its social function, with the aim of helping to stop the plague of Covid-19.
