The post-truth debate at the XXIV Blanquerna Conferences
Photographer Joan Fontcuberta will try to answer a difficult question: can photography provide reasonable certainty in times of skepticism and fanatical credibility? His answer will surely be interesting.
From Monday, March 5th and until 7th, we celebrate the XXIV Blanquerna Communication Conferences, which this year opens a discussion about post-truth. There will be three days of intense activity during which time we will be honoured by the presence of the director of the magazine Métode, Martí Domínguez, the philosopher and author of Nueva ilustración radical, Marina Garcés and the physicist and poet David Jou, who will bring to the table the role of science and reason in this new context, where post-truth seems to have conquered the public sphere. Moderated by Professor Francesc Torralba, this debate will take place in classroom 201 on Monday at 11:30 a.m.
We will talk about everything: from sports with journalist Frederic Porta and History professor, Carles Santacana. Of humor, with youtuber Sergi Pinkman and former student Kike García of El Mundo Today. From image, with photographer Joan Foncuberta. And above all, journalism. The sociologist Salvador Cardús, Miquel Urmeneta, digital journalist and professor at UIC; the head of the Media section of ARA, Àlex Gutiérrez; journalist Ismael Nafría or Silvia Cobo, from El Periodico, are some of the guests who will participate in the various roundtables and conferences during these days.
Award for the Best Communicator of the Year 2017
The head of communication of the Mossos and alumni of the 6th promotion of the Faculty, Patricia Plaja, together with the head of communication of the General Director of Civil Protection of the Generalitat, Marc Homedes, are the winners of the Blanquerna Prize for the Best Communicator of the Year 2017, for their communication management following the attacks in Barcelona and Cambrils on August 17 of last year. The delivery of the award will take place on March 6 at 6:30 p.m. in the Auditorium of the School (Valldonzella, 12). In fact, on that day, at 3 p.m., both of them will explain how they did it, at the event "The communication of an attack", moderated by Professor Susana Pérez-Soler.
Since 1995, Blanquerna FCRI has organized these days with the objective of bringing students to the professional world through conferences, roundtables and discussions involving experts in each sector.
