Blanquerna-URL launches a series of measures to contribute to global energy savings
February 7, 2023
Since the start of this academic year, Blanquerna-URL has implemented a number of measures and initiatives designed to contribute to global energy savings and minimize the economic impact of higher energy prices.
The team coordinating these measures, comprising maintenance and service managers from the four Blanquerna buildings, has summarized the measures that have been taken in the following points:
- Rationalizing on/off times for lights and heating in the facilities.
- Optimizing space occupancy. Improving the management and optimization of schedules.
- Consolidating activities in a single area/building.
- Regulating and controlling temperature conditions: in winter, in common areas, the standard temperature will be 19-20 °C. In the offices, it is recommended to set the standard temperature at around 20 °C. When the summer arrives, the standard temperature will be 26 °C.
- Continue working on contracting (or reorienting) services that represent energy savings.
- Reducing waste generation (less use of paper, plastic and consumables) and facilitating and promoting recycling mechanisms and digitalization of services and processes.
With the goal of making the entire university community aware of the importance of global energy saving, an internal campaign will be launched in the schools with the question "What can you do?"
- Ensure that doors are closed, whenever it is not essential to keep them open for ventilation or other reasons, in order to minimize losses of heat and cold.
- Turn the lights off whenever possible and make the most of the hours of natural light.
- Turn off electronic devices, especially screens and computers.
- Take the stairs instead of the elevator.
- Contribute to a more sustainable mobility.
