The alumni Nuria Martínez Ribot, International Award for Mobile Journalism
The audiovisual reporter Nuria Martínez Ribot (Journalism, 14th promotion) has been given the International Mobile Journalism Prize, awarded by the UOC and the Efe agency, for «Coverage of Mission 75 of the Open Arms rescue ship».
Martínez spent twelve days aboard the Open Arms vessel to explain to the readers of Público, about the rescues of migrants in the Mediterranean. From there, she was able to show the conditions of the lifeboat and the essential work carried out by organisation’s volunteers.
The reporter explains that it was a very hard and cruel experience, since many of the rescued people had lived extreme experiences. For this reason, she thanks Open Arms for their work, and that they integrated her as one more volunteer, to denounce the situation that migrants live:
"They were days of a lot of work and we hardly slept", she remembers in an interview with her newspaper, but " the volunteers are absolutely committed to saving lives. I am so grateful to be able to echo these human stories."
