DOI
Digital Object Identifier
This is a system developed by an international group of publishers, which aims to identify information management on the digital network.
The main features of the DOI are:
- Identifying the content of an article and giving it a permanent link for locating on the Internet.
- The publisher issues a DOI code when the article is published and available electronically. All DOI numbers start with a 10 and contain a prefix and a suffix separated by a slash. The prefix has 4 or more digits and is the only number assigned by the organizations; the suffix is assigned by the publisher.
- The DOI is usually located on the first page of an article in an e-journal, next to the copyright. The DOI can also be found on the citation page of an article in a database.
- The function of the DOI in the bibliography is to act as a link with the content being referenced.
- Example of bibliographic citation using DOI instead of URL: Abraham, C., & Michie, S. (2008). A taxonomy of behavior change techniques used in interventions. Health Psychology, 27(3), 379-387. doi:10.1037/0278-6133.27.3.379
Using the DOI Resolver application, you can access the article information and also automatically its citation and you can consult any document through http://dx.doi.org/
